The halo is made by the wall, not by the letter. Surface colour, surface texture and the stand-off distance decide whether the effect is a clean outline or a smudge, and none of those are things a letter specification usually mentions. They are all listed here.
A reception wordmark is looked at from two metres by people with nothing else to do. Every seam, every kerning error and every uneven reflection is visible. See the halo and backlit brand walls route for how this is specified on a live job.
