VTM42 Power Steering Vane Pumps and Parts

VTM42 power steering vane pumps and cartridge kits for buses, trucks and heavy vehicles, machined to the original mounting and shaft pattern.

VTM42 Power Steering Pumps manufactured by SEIMT Hydraulics in Nanjing China

Product Overview

The VTM42 is the vane pump used on the power steering circuits of buses, coaches and heavy trucks. It runs continuously whenever the engine runs, which is why the cartridge wears before most other parts on the vehicle. We machine the complete pump and the cartridge kit, keeping the original mounting flange, shaft and port pattern so the unit fits the existing bracket and hose set.

Key Benefits

  • Direct fit to the existing bracket and hose connections
  • Cartridge kit restores steering assist without replacing the whole pump
  • Suited to the continuous running that a steering circuit demands
  • Kept in stock because the frame is common across many vehicle types

Application Scenarios

  • City buses and coaches on continuous duty
  • Heavy trucks and tractor units
  • Airport and port vehicles with heavy steering loads
  • Special vehicles built on truck chassis

Who It Is For

  • Bus and coach fleet workshops
  • Truck service centres and steering specialists
  • Distributors supplying commercial vehicle parts
  • Vehicle body builders fitting hydraulic steering

Problems It Solves

  • Steering assist has become heavy at low engine speed
  • The pump whines when the wheel is on full lock
  • A complete replacement pump is expensive and slow to arrive
  • The vehicle is out of service and every day off the road costs money

Technical Features

  • Vane cartridge sized for continuous engine driven duty
  • Original mounting flange and shaft pattern
  • Integrated flow and pressure control to the original arrangement
  • Hardened and ground rotor, cam ring and vanes
  • Seal materials suited to steering fluid temperature

Specifications

Performance figures depend on the exact variant, so we confirm them against your model code rather than publishing a number that may not apply to your pump.

Materials

Cylinder blocksCase hardening steel with a sintered bronze running face, bonded and machined after sintering
Pistons and shoesCase hardening steel with a bronze shoe face, swaged and hydrostatically balanced
Valve platesBearing steel or bronze faced steel depending on the frame, lapped to a mirror finish
Drive shaftsAlloy steel, carburised and hardened on the spline and bearing seats, ground on centres
Vanes and rotorsHigh speed tool steel and case hardening steel, hardened and ground on all working faces
Cam ringsBearing quality alloy steel, through hardened then profile ground
SealsNitrile as standard, fluorocarbon or polyurethane on request for hot or fire resistant fluid duty

Manufacturing Process

Model CodeDrawing CheckMachiningHeat TreatmentInspectionPacking
  1. Turning and millingBlanks are turned and milled from certified bar and forging stock on CNC machines.
  2. Heat treatmentCarburising, quenching, tempering or nitriding to the route the original part uses.
  3. GrindingBores, spline seats and running faces are ground after heat treatment so distortion is removed.
  4. Lapping and superfinishingValve plates, shoe faces and block faces are lapped so the pair seals under pressure.
  5. InspectionDimensions, hardness and surface finish are recorded against the drawing on a sampling plan.
  6. Assembly and testComplete pumps are built, run in and tested for efficiency, leakage and noise before packing.

Quality Control

  • Incoming material certificates are checked against the grade called for on the drawing.
  • Hardness is measured after heat treatment on every batch and recorded on the batch card.
  • Critical bores and running faces are gauged against the drawing tolerance, not against a sample part.
  • Mating parts are matched as a set so the block, shoes and valve plate run in together.
  • Rebuilt pumps are bench tested for volumetric efficiency, external leakage and sound level.
  • Parts are cleaned, oiled and vacuum sealed so they arrive without surface rust.

Use Guide

  1. Flush the steering circuit before fitting, because debris from the old pump stays in the reservoir.
  2. Fit a new reservoir filter if the vehicle has one.
  3. Fill the reservoir, then turn the wheel lock to lock with the engine off to bleed the circuit.
  4. Start the engine and idle for a few minutes without steering under load.
  5. Recheck the fluid level once the air has cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the VTM42 come with the reservoir?
The pump is supplied without the reservoir unless you ask for it. Tell us the arrangement on your vehicle and we will confirm what is included.
Can I fit only the cartridge kit?
Yes, if the housing bore and cover face are in good condition. Photographs of the opened pump will tell us.
Why does the pump whine on full lock?
On full lock the pump goes over relief. Continuous whining outside that condition usually means air in the suction or a worn cartridge.
Which fluid should be used?
Use the fluid specified by the vehicle maker. Tell us if it is not a mineral oil so we fit the right seal material.
Do you supply in fleet quantities?
Yes. Ask for the price at your annual quantity and we will hold stock against a call off schedule.

Send Us the Model Code and We Will Quote

Tell us the model code stamped on the pump, the quantity and your delivery port. A quotation with lead time usually comes back within one working day.
