Assembled Interface Board With Serial Ethernet And Edge Connector
An assembled interface board carrying two D-sub serial connectors, an RJ45 Ethernet jack and a gold finger edge connector. Boards like this sit between a host system and the field wiring, so every connector on them is mechanically loaded in service.
What This Board Is
Connector-heavy boards are assembly problems more than fabrication problems. The through-hole D-sub bodies have to stay square while the surface mount side reflows, the RJ45 magnetics have to survive the same profile, and the gold finger edge has to come out of the process clean enough to mate. We fabricate the board and assemble it in one place, which means the finish, the panel format and the reflow profile are decided together rather than negotiated between two suppliers.

What You Get From This Build
- Fabrication and assembly under one roof, so panel format and reflow profile are planned together
- Gold finger edges are masked through assembly and stay clean for mating
- Mixed through-hole and surface mount build handled on one route
- Board and assembly are quoted as one price, with one party responsible for the finished unit
Who Specifies This Board
- Industrial communication gateway manufacturers
- Automation OEMs building fieldbus and serial interface cards
- Instrument makers whose products plug into a host chassis
- Buyers who currently split fabrication and assembly between two vendors
Four Failures This Build Is Designed Against
Each one is a real way this class of board goes wrong, and the tolerance or process decision that prevents it.
Two suppliers blaming each other for a defect
When the same plant fabricates and assembles the board there is nobody to pass the problem to.
D-sub shells that will not line up with the panel cut-out
Hole position tolerance of ±0.05 mm and outline tolerance of ±0.10 mm are held on the bare board before a single part is placed.
Edge fingers contaminated during assembly
Gold finger areas are protected through the paste, place and reflow steps.
Bare boards shipped to a second country for assembly
Assembling where the board is built removes a shipping leg and the damage and delay that go with it.

How This Board Is Made
Eight stages on equipment sourced from the USA, Japan, Germany and Israel. Every stage listed runs inside our own plant.
Data and BOM review
Manufacturer part numbers checked and alternates agreed in writing before buying.
Bare board
Fabricated in the same plant and open and short tested at 50 to 300 V.
Stencil
Cut to the paste layer of the same released revision as the board.
Paste and placement
Solder paste printed, then surface mount devices placed.
Reflow
Profiled for the substrate, with flexible circuits carried flat in tooling.
Through-hole and manual
Connectors, magnetics and hand-fitted parts as separate operations with their own inspection.
Inspection
Assembled boards inspected before packing.
Packing
Packed on our own packing machines to your goods-in specification.
What Is Checked Before It Ships
- Bare board open and short tested at 50 to 300 V before any component is placed
- Stencil and board matched to the same released revision
- Post-reflow inspection before through-hole and manual operations
- Mechanical parts such as sockets and terminal blocks inspected as mechanical parts
- Functional test quoted and run against your own test specification
What The Plant Holds
- ISO 9001:2000. Quality management system certification recorded by the company. Current revision year available on request.
- ISO 14001:1996. Environmental management system certification recorded by the company.
- UL. Certification recorded by the company. File number available on request.
- RoHS and lead free. Listed in the company environmental policy alongside pollution prevention and resource reduction.
Certificate numbers, issue dates and current revision years are not published on the legacy site. Ask for copies with your enquiry and they will be sent with the quotation.
How It Compares With The Alternatives
Three boards from our own catalogue, side by side, so the trade-off is visible rather than argued.
| Assembly | Technology | Distinguishing feature | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interface PCBA With D-Sub And Ethernet Ports | Mixed THT and SMD | Gold finger edge | Host chassis interface cards |
| Industrial IO PCBA With Relays And Terminal Blocks | Mixed THT and SMD | Screw terminals | Field wiring termination |
| Multi Port Control PCBA With USB And Card Slot | Mainly SMD | Chassis connectors | Front panel connectivity |
What To Send With Your Enquiry
Four things that decide whether the quote comes back right the first time.
- Send the bare board data and the bill of materials together, so the surface finish is chosen for the assembly rather than inherited.
- Mark the gold finger area on the drawing so it is masked through paste, place and reflow.
- Give the panel or chassis drawing that the D-sub and Ethernet cut-outs have to match.
- State which connectors ship fitted and which ship loose in the same carton.
Interface PCBA With D-Sub And Ethernet Ports Questions
Do you buy the components or do I consign them?
Both routes are used. Send the bill of materials with approved manufacturer part numbers and tell us which lines you want to consign.
Can you assemble boards you did not fabricate?
Tell us what you have and we will quote it. Most customers find it simpler to have the board built and assembled in the same plant.
Do you handle through-hole parts as well as surface mount?
Yes. This board mixes both, which is typical of interface and I/O products.
What test do you do on an assembled board?
Tell us what functional test the product needs and supply the test specification. Bare board open and short testing at 50 to 300 V is carried out before assembly.
