Hollow steel balls run from ∅6mm to ∅200mm (0.23 inch to 8 inch) with a wall from 0.6mm to 6mm. Large steel balls run from ∅200mm to ∅3500mm with a wall from 0.8mm to 16mm.
In practice the categories overlap in the middle, and the more useful question is which forming route you need.
Stock Versus Made to Order
We hold large stock in standard hollow steel ball sizes and can supply directly, usually in 1 to 3 days.
Large steel balls are scheduled production, normally 7 days for standard sizes and 7 to 15 days for customised orders.
Cost Drivers
On small hollow balls, the cost driver is tooling and quantity. Standard sizes carry no mould fee. A custom size under ∅250mm needs a USD 1,000 stamping mould.
On large steel balls, the cost drivers are wall thickness, finish and shipping. A diameter that crosses the ∅2200mm container limit changes the freight cost more than the fabrication cost.
Applications
Hollow steel balls end up as lampshade bodies, handrail finials, floating balls, display objects, gazing balls and facade elements in quantity.
Large steel balls end up as public art, fountain spheres, globes, garden focal points and architectural landmarks.
