Client Background
Publicis Groupe, the union of Publicis, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi and several large media groups, worked with us in 2015 on their Russia agency workplace. As the head office of a French company, the space needed to celebrate that fact.
Project Details
- Location
- Moscow, Russia
- Product range
- Hollow Steel Balls
Customer Pain Points
- The Sun Lion emblem had to be legible as a suspended installation
- 7,100 individual spheres had to be identical in size and finish
- Every sphere needed a drilled hole for suspension
Our Solution
The emblem was presented as an art installation made of 7,100 pieces of ∅51mm (2 inch) hollow stainless steel spheres, drilled and mirror polished.
Manufacturing Process
Each sphere was drilled for the suspension wire and mirror polished, held to one diameter across the whole piece count.
Supply Chain Coordination
The attic walls were decorated with French accents to maintain a Paris atmosphere around the installation.
Quality Control
Incoming material
Alloy and sheet thickness are checked against the order before any blank is cut.
Forming check
Diameter and wall are measured after pressing, spinning or water pressuring.
Weld and grind
The equator weld is inspected, then welds and burrs are ground off before finishing.
Surface inspection
Every piece is inspected for scratches, dents and polish consistency under light.
Packing
Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight, and photographs are sent before dispatch.
Final Result
The Sun Lion reads across the workplace as a single suspended image assembled from thousands of mirror spheres.
Customer Benefit
High volume production at one diameter and one finish made a mass installation possible at an office fit-out budget.
