What Makes This Application Different

Security installs mix data, power and signalling on the same job, often to devices mounted where nobody wants to return. The cable has to survive outdoors and carry power further than the datasheet's happy path.

What To Decide Before The Cable Is Ordered

PoE reach

Conductor resistance sets how much power arrives at a camera 80 m away. 23 AWG bare copper CAT6 gives meaningfully more margin than 24 AWG CCA.

Outdoor jackets

PE for external runs. PVC chalks and cracks under sustained UV, and a failed jacket on a roof run is a cherry-picker job.

Signal cores

Readers, locks, request-to-exit and door position each need conductors. Multi-core security cable with spare cores is cheaper than a second pull.

Screening

Access control data runs benefit from a screen where they share containment with mains cable over distance.

Identification

Jacket colour separating camera, access and alarm circuits pays back on every future fault call.

Should I use CCA for PoE camera runs?

No. Use bare copper where the link carries PoE over any significant distance — the higher resistance of CCA shows up as voltage drop at the device.
