CAT6A exists to solve one problem: alien crosstalk between adjacent cables in a full bundle at 10 Gb. That is why the cable is physically larger, why the screen matters, and why containment fill has to be planned before the cable is ordered rather than after.

Do I need CAT6A for Wi-Fi access points?

For Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points with multi-gig uplinks, CAT6A is the safe specification. CAT6 will carry 10 Gb over shorter links but is not specified for it across a full 100 m channel.

How much bigger is CAT6A than CAT6?

Noticeably — the screen and the larger separator increase the outside diameter, which changes containment fill calculations. Plan tray and conduit capacity before ordering.

Is the CAT6A range shielded only?

The specification currently held is a shielded build. Unshielded CAT6A can be quoted as a production run.
