What Makes This Application Different

Installed audio runs are long, concealed and permanent. Getting the conductor size wrong costs level at the far end, and nobody is re-pulling a ceiling ring to fix it.

Specification Decisions

What To Decide Before The Cable Is Ordered

Run length and gauge

Cable resistance in series with the speaker costs level and damping factor. Longer runs and lower impedance loads need more copper.

Profile

Flat figure-8 for under carpet gripper and behind trim. Round for conduit and ceiling void pulls where it has to slide.

Conductor count

4-conductor halves the number of pulls for bi-wire runs and stereo pairs fed from one amplifier position.

Polarity

Red/black, striped and transparent jackets all give an unambiguous identification in a dark ceiling.

In-wall rating

Concealed wall runs normally require a jacket rated for the application — use the in-wall specification rather than general-purpose cable.
