Metal Keypads and Encrypting Pin Pads for Parking and Toll Systems

Parking pay stations, entry columns and toll lanes sit outdoors and unattended, so the input surface takes weather, grit and deliberate abuse without anyone on site to notice a failure.

Parking pay stations, entry columns and toll lanes sit outdoors and unattended, so the input surface takes weather, grit and deliberate abuse without anyone on site to notice a failure. KEYU manufactures panel-mount stainless steel keypads, side keypads, backlit keyboards, numeric keypads with LCM and encrypting pin pads for exactly this kind of terminal. Every part is cut, formed and assembled in our own 4,500 square metre factory in Shenzhen, with OEM and ODM tooling drawn from over 1,000 sets of molds.

What Goes Wrong On Site

  • Plastic keypads crack or discolour after a season of direct sun, rain and road salt, forcing a truck roll to every lane
  • An unattended terminal is a target, so keys get pried, hit and drilled long before they wear out from normal use
  • Card payment at the barrier means PIN entry in the open, where the keypad itself has to resist tampering and shoulder observation
  • Drivers reach from the seat at an awkward angle, so a keypad with poor legibility at night slows the lane and builds a queue
  • Cabinet cut-outs differ between pay station models, and a keypad that does not match the existing panel opening forces mechanical redesign

What Buyers In This Sector Need

  • A sealed, panel-mount metal front face that keeps rain and washdown out of the terminal electronics
  • Vandal resistance in the front plate and key construction rather than a plastic bezel that can be levered off
  • An encrypting pin pad option where the terminal takes card payment and the PIN must never travel in the clear
  • Backlighting and clear key legends so night-time and tunnel-lit lanes stay usable

Typical Installations

  • Unattended pay-on-foot stations in multi-storey car parks, where the keypad is used all day by the public
  • Entry and exit columns at a barrier, mounted at driver height and exposed to weather on every face
  • Toll lane terminals where PIN entry and ticket number entry happen in the same short stop
  • Reserved-bay and permit terminals that need a numeric keypad with LCM so the display and keys form one sealed assembly
  • Side-mounted keypads on narrow columns where there is no room for a full front-panel keyboard
  • Retrofit of a failing plastic keypad into an existing pay station cabinet with the original cut-out kept

How A Project Runs

Step

Send us the panel cut-out drawing or the existing keypad sample, along with the layout and interface the controller expects

Step

We confirm the key matrix, front plate outline, mounting method and whether backlighting or an encrypting pin pad is required

Step

Our engineers return 2D drawings and a 3D model for your mechanical team to check against the cabinet before anything is cut

Step

We build a sample from the approved drawing on our own CNC and sheet-metal equipment and ship it for fit and function testing

Step

Once you sign off the sample we release tooling and move to a production run under our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system

Step

Drawings, layout files and tooling stay on record so repeat orders and spares match the units already in the field

What We Deliver

  • OEM and ODM builds to your drawing, including custom key legends, front plate outline and cable exit position
  • Standard product approvals named for our range include CE, RoHS, FCC, EMC, IP65, IP66, IP67, IK07 and BIS, with the applicable set confirmed per model
  • Export supply to South America, North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East

Parking and Toll Systems Questions

Can you match the cut-out in our existing pay station cabinet?
Yes. Send the panel drawing or the keypad you are replacing and we design the front plate and mounting to that opening, so the cabinet does not have to change. We return drawings for your approval before any tooling is cut.
Do you supply encrypting pin pads as well as plain keypads?
We manufacture both. Terminals that only take tickets or plate numbers usually need a plain metal keypad or side keypad, while terminals that accept card payment use an encrypting pin pad. Tell us which payment flow the lane runs and we will quote the matching build.
Which sealing rating should we specify for an outdoor column?
Our range covers IP65, IP66 and IP67. The right choice depends on whether the unit is under a canopy, fully exposed or pressure washed, so describe the mounting position and we will confirm which rating applies to the model you select.
Is backlighting available on the panel-mount keypads?
Yes, backlighting is one of the options on our keypad and keyboard range and is worth specifying for lanes used after dark or inside a structure. Brightness and legend design are set during the drawing stage.
Can we have our own layout and legends rather than a catalogue part?
Custom layouts are standard work for us. With over 1,000 sets of molds in house and CNC and sheet-metal equipment on site, we build key counts, legends and plate shapes to your specification rather than asking you to design around ours.
