Enquiry and Lighting Requirement
Backlight is often requested as a single word, leaving colour, brightness behaviour and which keys are lit entirely undefined.
We ask whether a backlight is needed at all, what colour it should be, which keys or symbols must be illuminated, and what the surrounding light looks like at the worst time of day. Those answers come out of the same needs discussion that settles key count, interface, size, mounting and colour.
Requirement Review and Legend Method
Legends printed in ink fade with use, and once the character on the key is gone the backlight is illuminating nothing worth reading.
We review how the characters themselves are produced. Legends carved by laser leave a raised and recessed feel under the finger and survive handling, whereas directly printed ink marks fade over time. On a backlit unit this matters twice over, because legend durability is what the illumination depends on.
Design and Drawing
Adding illumination to a sealed metal panel can compromise the seal or produce patchy light across the keypad.
Backlighting is built with LED strip technology, with an LED behind each key so characters read evenly rather than brightly at one end of the panel. The lighting layout, key layout and sealed construction are drawn as one design and issued to you for approval before anything is made.
Tooling and Moulds
Light leakage between keys and inconsistent key travel are forming problems, not electronics problems, and they only appear once parts are real.
Panels and key components are formed on our own CNC and sheet-metal equipment using the mould library held in the Shenzhen plant. Because tooling adjustment happens in the same factory as assembly, an illumination defect traced back to the panel can be corrected at source.
Sampling and Approval
Illumination judged on a bench under office lighting looks nothing like the same unit at two in the morning on a forecourt.
Samples are produced and tested, then sent for you to evaluate in the actual installation and in the actual darkness. Key feel is assessed at the same time, since even key pressure, moderate travel and keys that do not loosen are what operators judge the unit on. Changes are made and resampled until you confirm.
Mass Production
Colour and brightness variation between batches is immediately visible when several terminals stand side by side.
The confirmed sample fixes the backlight colour, legend method and key construction for the run, so later terminals in the same estate match the ones already installed instead of drifting batch by batch.
Quality Control and Acoustic Check
A keypad that is loud in a bank lobby or a hotel reception irritates staff and customers however well it performs technically.
Noise is treated as a specification item rather than a side effect, and membrane key technology with noise-reduction design is used where a quiet unit is required. Electrical and environmental checks run against the approvals held for our range, including CE, RoHS, FCC and EMC, with sheet-metal work under ISO 9001:2015.
Packing Shipping and After Sales
Replacing one illuminated unit in a deployed estate is only useful if it looks and behaves like its neighbours.
