What Is A Poly Thin Skin Hair System
A poly thin skin base is a sheet of polyurethane the hair is tied or looped into, so the parting reads as scalp instead of as mesh. Here is what the thickness number actually changes.
What A Thin Skin Base Actually Is
A thin skin hair system is built on polyurethane rather than on lace or monofilament. The sheet is transparent, it takes the colour of your own scalp underneath it, and there is no mesh for light to catch on. That is the whole reason people choose it.
The number on the product, 0.02mm through 0.12mm, is the thickness of that sheet. Everything else about the unit follows from it: how invisible the front looks, how long the base survives handling, and how easy it is to clean adhesive off.
What Each Thickness Is For
There is no best thickness, only the one that matches how you live and how often you are willing to replace a unit.
- 0.02mm to 0.04mm looks the most like bare scalp and is the most fragile of the range
- 0.06mm to 0.08mm is the usual middle ground for daily wear and first-time wearers
- 0.10mm to 0.12mm handles repeated removal and cleaning best and shows slightly more at the front

Why The Front Matters More Than The Thickness
A knot at the hairline is a dark dot sitting on a transparent surface, which is exactly what gives a unit away in daylight. Two constructions solve it.
A V-loop front has no knot at all: the hair is looped into the poly and comes back out. Bleached knots keep the knot but lighten its colour so it reads as scalp. V-loop is the cleaner result and is the reason a thin skin front can be combed straight back.
The Trade-Off Nobody Should Hide From You
Poly does not breathe. It is a sealed sheet against your scalp, so it runs warmer than lace or mono. In a hot climate, or if you work outdoors or train hard, that is a real daily cost.
If breathability matters more to you than an invisible front, a Swiss or French lace base or a fine welded mono is the honest recommendation, even though it looks slightly less seamless at the hairline.
Fitting And Looking After One
Poly is the easiest base to live with day to day, because the smooth surface takes both tape and liquid adhesive and wipes clean afterwards.
- Attach with double sided tape or liquid adhesive directly onto the poly
- Clean adhesive residue off after every removal so the next bond holds
- Use a gentle wig shampoo and keep alcohol based products away from the front
- Cut the base back to your own template before the first fitting
- Have the hair cut in on your head so the front blends with your own hairline
Ordering One That Fits
Stock thin skin units are commonly 8 by 10 inches with 6 inch Indian Remy hair, and they leave our workshop within 24 hours on working days. If your head is between sizes, send a template or your measurements and we cut the base before it ships, which adds 2 to 5 working days.
Colour is ordered by code, from 1# jet black through the browns to 613#, with grey as a blend percentage such as 1B30# or 1B65#. Ordering by code rather than by eye is what makes the next unit match this one.

Questions On This Topic
How long does a thin skin unit last?
It depends on the thickness, how often you remove and reattach it, and how carefully you clean the adhesive off. Thinner bases wear out sooner than thicker ones, which is the trade you make for the look.
Can I swim or shower in it?
Poly handles water better than lace because there is no open mesh, but the bond is what decides it. Ask about a stronger adhesive if you swim regularly, and rinse the base afterwards.
Will it damage my scalp?
Used sensibly it should not. Keep the scalp clean, take the unit off to let the skin breathe, and remove adhesive properly rather than pulling at it. We are a manufacturer, not a clinic, so speak to a doctor about any scalp condition.
Is thin skin good for a first hair system?
0.06mm to 0.08mm is a sensible first unit: it looks natural, it survives learning to attach it, and it is the easiest base to clean while you get into a routine.
Can I get a thin skin base in a custom size?
Yes. Send a template or your measurements. Custom production runs 8 to 10 weeks on the regular schedule, with rush options down to 15 to 23 days.
Do you sell thin skin units wholesale?
Yes. Wholesale pricing starts at 10 or more items, and OEM packaging is available if you resell under your own brand.
