What A Thin Skin Hair System Actually Is
A thin skin hair system is built on a sheet of polyurethane, not lace or monofilament. The base is transparent and takes on the colour of your own scalp underneath, so there is no visible mesh or knot pattern at the hairline.
Hair is attached using v-loop, tiny knots, or injected techniques. V-loop means the hair is looped into the base and comes back out, leaving no knot at the surface. Tiny knots are small, discreet points where hair is tied. Injected hair systems have each strand individually implanted at different angles, creating a natural fall.
How Thickness Affects Look And Longevity
The thickness of the polyurethane base ranges from 0.02mm to 0.12mm. Thinner bases look more like real scalp but are more fragile. Thicker bases last longer through handling and cleaning, but may show slightly more at the front.
0.02mm to 0.04mm is the most natural-looking but least durable. 0.06mm to 0.08mm balances realism and wear. 0.10mm to 0.12mm is best for frequent removal and reattachment.

Why V-Loop Fronts Are Invisible
A v-loop front has no knot at the hairline. The hair is looped into the poly and returns through the same point, so there is no dark dot sitting on the surface. This makes the front look like natural scalp growth.
Tiny knots are slightly more durable but leave a small mark. They can be bleached to reduce visibility, but they still show more than v-loop in bright light.
The Trade-Off Nobody Should Hide From You
Polyurethane is a sealed surface. It does not breathe. This means the base stays warmer against the scalp than lace or mono, especially in hot weather or during physical activity.
If you work outdoors, train hard, or live in a humid climate, the lack of airflow may cause discomfort. Lace, especially Swiss or French lace, allows more air to pass through, which reduces heat buildup.
Fitting And Looking After One
Poly is smooth and holds both tape and liquid adhesive well. It wipes clean easily after removal, which helps maintain strong bonds over time.

How long does a thin skin unit last?
It depends on the thickness, how often you remove and reattach it, and how carefully you clean the adhesive off. Thinner bases wear out sooner than thicker ones, which is the trade you make for the look.
Can I swim or shower in it?
Poly handles water better than lace because there is no open mesh, but the bond is what decides it. Ask about a stronger adhesive if you swim regularly, and rinse the base afterwards.
Will it damage my scalp?
