What This Part Does

A needle detector reads each needle as it passes a fixed point. A needle with a broken hook, a missing latch or a bent shank does not present the expected profile, and the machine is stopped before that needle drops a line of stitches down the whole roll.

Detectors are low voltage devices, commonly 6.3 V, 12 V or 24 V, and they are supplied with their own cables and holders because the sensing gap has to be held accurately.

Why Buy From Us

  • Stops a broken needle before it puts a running line down the fabric
  • Protects the sinkers and the cam box from a broken needle running on
  • Supplied with the cables and holders that set the sensing gap
  • Available for the common low voltage circuits

Where It Is Used

  • Single jersey and double jersey circular machines
  • Machines running fine gauge where a needle fault is hard to see
  • High speed machines where a fault costs many metres quickly

Who It Is For

  • Mills where a needle line fault means the whole roll is downgraded
  • Maintenance teams replacing failed detectors
  • Machine rebuilders restoring machine protection circuits

Problems It Solves

  • A running line down a full roll from one broken needle
  • Sinker and cam damage caused by a broken needle left in the cylinder
  • Detectors set at the wrong gap giving false stops or missing faults

What to Send Us When You Order

  1. Circuit voltage, commonly 6.3 V, 12 V or 24 V
  2. Machine builder, model and diameter
  3. A photo of the existing detector, cable and holder
  4. Whether you need the unit only or the complete set with cable and holder

Needle Detectors Questions

What voltage do I need?

Check the machine circuit before ordering. Detectors are made for specific low voltages and fitting the wrong one will either not work or shorten the life of the unit.

Why is the detector missing faults?

Most often the sensing gap has drifted or fly has built up on the sensor face. Clean it and reset the gap to the machine builder figure before replacing the unit.

Do I need one detector per machine?

That depends on machine size and how the machine was originally equipped. Send photos of the machine and we will confirm against what is fitted.

Builder, model, diameter and gauge, plus a photo of the old part. That is all we need to match it.
