What This Product Is For
Hastelloy G30 is a nickel base superalloy of nickel, chromium, cobalt and tungsten with a nickel content of about 37 percent and a high chromium level. Compared with most other nickel and iron base alloys, it stands up to mixed environments of commercial phosphoric acid and highly oxidising acid media such as nitric and hydrochloric, nitric and hydrofluoric, and sulphuric acid. It also suppresses grain boundary precipitation in the weld heat affected zone, which is why welded G30 fabrications are used across chemical treatment projects.
Key Benefits
- Holds up in commercial phosphoric acid, which is a mixed acid environment that defeats many nickel and iron base alloys
- Resists highly oxidising acid media including nitric and hydrofluoric mixtures
- Prevents grain boundary precipitation in the welding heat affected zone, so welded assemblies keep their corrosion resistance
- Available as pipe, plate, bar and fittings so a complete circuit can be built in one grade
- Covered by five ASTM specifications across those product forms

Who It Is For
- Phosphoric acid and fertiliser plant engineers
- Chemical process fabricators welding nickel alloy spools
- Maintenance teams replacing failed mixed acid piping
- Buyers working to ASTM B366, B581, B582, B619 or B622
Problems It Solves
- Weld zone attack in nickel alloys that precipitate at the grain boundary after welding
- Rapid corrosion of iron base alloys in commercial phosphoric acid
- Sourcing pipe, plate, bar and fittings in one high chromium nickel grade
- Specification mismatch across the five ASTM product form standards
Application Scenarios
- Wet process phosphoric acid plants
- Mixed acid pickling and regeneration lines
- Nitric and hydrofluoric acid handling equipment
- Welded chemical process vessels and spools

- Machining
Quality Control
- Chemistry checked against the N06030 composition ranges
- Product form matched to the correct ASTM specification of the five listed
- Weld procedure reviewed so heat affected zone behaviour is preserved
- Dimensional check before packing
Customisation Options
- Pipe, plate, bar or fittings supplied in the same heat where possible
- Sizes cut and machined to your drawing
- Specification named on the certificate from the five ASTM standards
Use Guide
- Name the product form and the matching ASTM specification when ordering
- Weld with a matching G30 class consumable to keep the heat affected zone behaviour
- Confirm the acid mixture and temperature before selecting between G30 and C-276
- Clean and pickle welded assemblies before commissioning
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| Hastelloy C-276 | C-276 is the choice for reducing and wet chlorine service, G30 for commercial phosphoric acid and highly oxidising mixed acids |
|---|---|
| 904L stainless steel | G30 carries far more nickel and chromium, which is what lets it work in nitric and hydrofluoric mixtures that 904L cannot handle |
| Alloy 625 | Alloy 625 is the general purpose high strength nickel grade, G30 is tuned specifically for oxidising acid chemistry |
