Wholesale Stock Or OEM Production: Which One Do You Need
The most useful question a new underwear buyer can answer is whether they are buying goods or buying capacity. The two have almost nothing in common.
Buyers ask for a quote on custom underwear when what they actually need is a small stock order, and they ask for stock when they need a real production run. The difference is not price, it is what you are buying.

When Stock Is The Right Answer
- You do not yet know which colour or size sells.
- You need goods in weeks rather than months.
- You are importing for the first time and want to learn the mechanics on a small amount.
- You have a gap in your range while a production order is being cut.
When OEM Is The Right Answer
- You have a customer who repurchases and you need consistency.
- The product is the design - print, waistband, fit or trim.
- A retailer requires your labels, your packaging and your compliance file.
- Your margin depends on controlling the specification, not on reselling somebody else’s.
The Path Between Them
The normal route is stock first, OEM second. You order 12 pcs of a design, list it, see whether it sells, and then come back and say you want that block in your own fabric with your own waistband. At that point we identify the block behind the stock item and quote it as a custom run against your specification.
What ODM Adds
ODM sits between the two. It is OEM production with the design work included, for buyers who know what they want to sell but cannot produce a tech pack. The minimums and the lead time are the same as OEM; what changes is who develops the specification.
