Customer Pain Points
- Cutting legible lettering into a compound curved surface
- Integrating lighting without spoiling the mirror finish
- Sequencing polishing around the cutting work
Our Solution
We first made an entire steel ball with water pressure, then rough polished the surface, drew the letters on it, cut them by plasma, and finally mirror polished the whole sphere.
Manufacturing Process
After production of the large steel ball finished, warm 3100K LED letters were integrated into the blank of the cut area.
Supply Chain Coordination
The complete sphere with lighting was delivered as one assembly.
Quality Control
Incoming material
Alloy and sheet thickness are checked against the order before any blank is cut.
Forming check
Diameter and wall are measured after pressing, spinning or water pressuring.
Weld and grind
The equator weld is inspected, then welds and burrs are ground off before finishing.
Surface inspection
Every piece is inspected for scratches, dents and polish consistency under light.
Packing
Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight, and photographs are sent before dispatch.
Final Result
The sphere reads as a mirror landmark in daylight and as illuminated lettering after dark.
Customer Benefit
Doing the polishing after the cutting kept the mirror finish clean right up to the letter edges.
