Product Overview

Large steel balls carry a high quality mirror polished finish. The reflective surface gives a garden or public art design a great deal of visual impact. They are made from durable AISI 304 stainless steel alloy, and we can also supply them in AISI 316 if the project needs higher corrosion resistance, for example a beach or coastal installation.

Above ∅3500mm we build the sphere complete in the factory and cut it into quarters or eighths, welding internal ribs to each edge so the parts bolt back into a full sphere on site.

Problems It Solves

  • Sizes above ∅2200mm will not fit a standard container. We cut, rib and pack the sphere so it travels in a 40ft box and closes up on site.
  • Weld seams that show on a mirror surface. Water pressuring produces an invisible seam after grinding and polishing.
  • Coastal and pool-side corrosion. AISI 316 is available across the whole size range.

Materials

We form spheres and hemispheres in AISI 304, AISI 316 and AISI 316L stainless steel, Q235 carbon steel, H62 brass alloy and A6061 aluminium alloy. The alloy decides corrosion resistance, weight and how the surface takes a polish.

For this product the standard specification is 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel. Tell us the site conditions and we will confirm whether a different grade is worth the cost.

Manufacturing Process

Forming happens by stamping press, water pressuring, spinning or hand assembling. Two halves are joined at the equator, the weld is ground, and the surface is finished last, after any cutting or drilling has been done.

Quality Control

  1. Incoming material

    Alloy and sheet thickness are checked against the order before any blank is cut.

  2. Forming check

    Diameter and wall are measured after pressing, spinning or water pressuring.

  3. Weld and grind

    The equator weld is inspected, then welds and burrs are ground off before finishing.

  4. Surface inspection

    Every piece is inspected for scratches, dents and polish consistency under light.

  5. Packing

    Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight, and photographs are sent before dispatch.

  1. Confirm the diameter first

    Diameter drives the forming route, the wall thickness, the price and the freight mode. Settle it before anything else.

  2. Match the alloy to the site

    304 inland, 316 near salt water or pools, Q235 where a rust patina is wanted, brass or aluminium where weight or colour matters.

  3. Choose the finish last

    Finishing always happens after forming, welding, cutting and grinding, so pattern edges stay clean.

  4. Plan the fixing

    Tell us whether the piece is bolted, threaded, welded to a base tube or suspended, and we build the fitting into the part.

  5. Check the shipping limit

    ∅2200mm fits a container, ∅3500mm fits a flat rack, and larger spheres are segmented with bolted ribs.

FAQ

What is the largest sphere you can ship in a normal container?
∅2200mm (∅71/3 ft) is the limit for a 20ft or 40ft container. A flat rack takes up to ∅3500mm with packaging. Anything larger is cut into quarters or eighths and reassembled on site.
Can a cut sphere really close up invisibly on site?
Yes. Two ribs are welded to each edge of the quarter sphere. The ribs are AISI 304 flat bar, 5mm thick and 75mm wide, drilled so the parts bolt together. The joints are then ground and polished.
Can I order 2100mm Garden Large Metal Ball in a different size?
Yes above ∅200mm, where there is no standard mould limit. Below ∅250mm a customised size needs a new stamping press mould, charged at USD 1,000.
How is it packed and shipped?
Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight. Samples and small orders go by DHL, UPS, FedEx or Aramex in 3 to 7 days. Larger orders go by air in around 3 days to your airport or by sea in 15 to 30 days.
