What this category solves

  • The object cannot be carried to a fixed scanner, so the scanner has to come to it
  • Conventional transmission imaging needs access to both sides of the target
  • Transmission imaging is insensitive to low-density explosives and drugs
  • Field conditions destroy equipment without ingress and drop ratings
  • A specialist who must advise on the image is not at the scene

Who it is for

  • EOD and counter-terrorism teams working on items that cannot be moved
  • Customs and border units inspecting vehicles and containers in the field
  • Fire and forensic investigators examining damaged assemblies
  • Conservators authenticating artefacts non-destructively

What the range gives you

  • Single-sided backscatter imaging that needs no access behind the target
  • Portable panels from 12 mm thick with blind zones as small as 5 mm
  • Steel penetration from 4 mm handheld up to 110 mm on the 270 kV portable system
  • IP67 bodies with 1 m drop resistance for real field work
  • Encrypted cloud backup so a remote specialist can review a scan as it happens

Typical scenarios

  • Assessing a suspect package where it lies
  • Inspecting vehicle doors, panels and tyres at a border point
  • Imaging behind a wall or inside furniture during a search
  • Non-destructive authentication of artefacts and paintings

X-Ray Inspection Systems and Portable Scanners FAQ

What is backscatter and when do I need it

Backscatter reads X-rays scattered back from one side, so no access is needed behind the object, and it is far better than transmission at showing organic material such as explosives and drugs.

Which portable system penetrates the most

The 270 kV system, at 110 mm of steel under optimal conditions. The 150 kV reaches 50 mm, the 125 kV 42 mm and the 120 kV 25 mm.

Can a panel be used with an X-ray source we already own

The 120 kV ultra-thin panel is described as compatible with all X-ray sources on the market. Send us your source model to confirm.

Are these usable outdoors in bad weather

Several are IP67, and the 270 kV system adds 1 m drop resistance.

Can images be shared off the device

The 150 kV, 125 kV and 270 kV systems support cloud storage, the 270 kV with encrypted transmission.

What approvals do we need to import one

Requirements for portable X-ray sources vary by country and can be strict. Send your destination on WhatsApp before ordering.

Specifying x-ray inspection systems and portable scanners

Tell us the dimensions, the throughput and the environment. We will recommend the model that fits rather than the one at the top of the range.
