View specification →What this category solves
- Bulk screening does not detect residue on someone who handled explosives
- Laboratory analysis is far too slow for a live checkpoint
- Separate machines for explosives and narcotics double the cost and the queue
- A visual check cannot separate water from a clear flammable solvent
- A generic dangerous-liquid alarm gives no basis for a handling decision
Who it is for
- Anti-terrorism and counter-narcotics units
- Airports, customs and border enforcement
- Large events and important meeting venues
- Critical infrastructure security teams
What the range gives you
- IMS trace detection down to 200 pg for both TNT and cocaine on the VPM-2018
- Explosives and narcotics on one machine, including mixed samples
- Fluorescent polymer trace detection with a 2 second response
- Liquid detection through sealed containers with no radiation source
- Component identification naming the substance, hazard and leakage treatment
Typical scenarios
- Wipe sampling hands, surfaces or packaging at a checkpoint
- Screening bottles and cans at a venue entrance
- Anti-terrorism sweeps at large events
- Mine detection across mixed and waterlogged terrain

Explosive and Narcotics Trace Detectors FAQ
What is the difference between trace and bulk detection
Trace detection finds residue left by handling, which is how you catch someone even when they are not carrying anything. Bulk detection identifies the substance itself, such as a liquid in a bottle.
How sensitive is trace detection here
The VPM-2018 states 200 pg for TNT and 200 pg for cocaine, in the nanogram to picogram range.
Can a liquid be checked without opening it
Yes. The handheld hazardous liquid detector covers 49 liquid types through non-metallic containers, and the desktop system handles metal cans too.
Does anything emit radiation
The liquid detectors do not. They use microwave reflection, thermal conductivity or quasi-static tomography with no radiation source.
Can new substances be added
Yes on the VPM-2018 and the desktop liquid system, both of which accept new samples added on site.
Can these be exported to our country
Detection equipment for explosives is controlled in many markets. Send your destination and end use on WhatsApp first.
