How Automatic Window Closers and Mirror Folding Modules Work

What a Window Closer Actually Does

The module sits inline with the power window circuit and watches the arming signal from the alarm or central locking. With the ignition off and the door closed, pressing the arming button starts the module driving each window up in turn. It detects all four windows and closes any that are not properly shut. Each window is driven for less than eight seconds.

Why It Ignores You When the Ignition Is On

With the ignition on, pressing the arming button produces no window response at all. That is deliberate. It means the module cannot start closing a window while a passenger has an arm out of it, and the windows can only be operated from the manual switch when the vehicle is live.

Current Draw Is the Specification That Matters

A module that sits on the battery permanently has to draw almost nothing at rest. Our window closer specifies a quiescent current of 6 mA or less and a load current of 15 A or less, with a working range of minus 20 to 80 degrees Celsius. Those three figures are what an installer needs before committing to a fitment on a vehicle that may stand for days.

What a Mirror Folding Module Does

The mirror folding module works from the same class of signal. When the car is switched off, the mirrors fold in. When the unlock button is pressed with the car still off, they open again. Static current is under 8 mA, and the ACC and locking signal must be above 9V for the module to see them.

Where They Get Fitted

Both modules go behind trim, inside the door card or the kick panel, away from the door membrane and any moving mechanism. They are supplied with a wire harness. The window closer suits any vehicle model with electric lift windows, at 12V or 24V; the mirror folding module is supplied for Toyota Corolla, Levin and Camry.

Why Retailers Like Them

Fitting time is short, the customer benefit is obvious in the first rainstorm or the first tight car park, and neither module needs the customer to learn anything or carry an extra remote. That combination makes them one of the easiest upsells an accessory installer can attach to an alarm or audio job.
