Strainer Screen Construction Types

Wire Cloth Only

A single layer of wire mesh, formed and seam welded. Used for miniature strainers and for fine ratings where the pressure differential is low.

Available from 2 mesh through 635 mesh depending on the screen family.

Simplex Perforated

A single layer of perforated metal. Used for coarse filtering in larger strainers, with hole sizes from 0.4mm up to 1 inch.

This is the strongest of the three for a given wall thickness and the easiest to clean.

Perforated Lined With Wire Mesh

Perforated metal on the outside with a wire cloth lining inside. This is the construction commonly used in fine filtration, because the perforated layer carries the load and the cloth sets the rating.

Temporary strainers use a fourth variation as well, a perforated basket with the mesh on the outside as a cover.

What Else to Fix

Beyond the construction there is the handle, the ring, the bottom cap and the material thickness. Strainer basket bottoms are made perforated or as a blank cap.

Temporary strainer handles are 1 inch wide by 4 inch long as standard and can be customized.
