EPC Series Electro Pneumatic Converter Overview

The EPC electro-pneumatic converter is a new generation of converter product developed on the basis of introduced advanced technology. It converts different input current signals into corresponding output pneumatic signals, and it does so with more power behind the output than a conventional transducer.

Control room 4-20 mA / 0-10 V Transducer Nozzle and baffle Pneumatic power amplifier Zero and span adjust Signal air 20-100 kPa Control valve Actuator spring Instrument air 0.14 MPa via filter regulator

The power amplifier inside

There is a pneumatic power amplifier inside the converter. It produces a higher output power pneumatic signal for various pneumatic actuators, and specifically for large-calibre control valves, which increases the operating speed of those actuators.

More than a conversion unit

Besides acting as the conversion unit between the electric instrument and the pneumatic control valve, the converter can be used in conjunction with a pneumatic valve positioner to realise the function of an electric valve positioner. For a plant that already owns pneumatic positioners, that is a way to bring them under electrical control without replacing them.

The claimed advantages

Small size, ingenious structure, high precision, good stability and convenient installation. The published position is that the technical performance has reached the international advanced level and can replace imported and domestic similar products.

Where it sits against the imported patterns

The Controlair, Marsh Bellofram, Fairchild and Flowserve patterns on this site exist because plants already have those instruments installed and need matching replacements. The EPC is the alternative for a new installation, chosen on output power rather than on matching an existing footprint.

How to decide

If you are replacing a failed unit, match the pattern. If you are specifying a new loop on a large-bore valve, compare the EPC's output power against the flow figures of the pattern instruments and choose on what the actuator needs.

FAQ

Quick Answers

What is the EPC series designed to do

Convert different input current signals into corresponding output pneumatic signals, with a pneumatic power amplifier that raises the output power sent to the actuator.

Can it act as an electric valve positioner

Used in conjunction with a pneumatic valve positioner it realises the function of an electric valve positioner.

Which actuators benefit most

Large-calibre control valves, because the higher output power increases their operating speed.

Send the loop details and we will point you at the model that fits, and tell you when a positioner would serve you better than a transducer.
