Pin And Footprint Guide
How pin distance row distance and pin material decide the PCB land pattern, with the pitches most used across the catalogue.
Three published fields decide whether a bobbin or base drops into your board: pin distance, row distance and pin material. Every part page in this catalogue states them where the drawing gives them, which is what lets a layout engineer draw the land pattern before samples arrive.
Pin Distance
The spacing between adjacent pins along one side. Some parts state two values separated by a slash, which means the spacing is not uniform along the row. Read that carefully before mirroring a footprint.
Row Distance
The spacing between the two pin rows. This is what sets the overall footprint width and it is the dimension most often missed when a part is substituted.
Pin Material And Terminals
Commonly CP wire or copper wire on bobbins, and phosphor bronze with 100 percent tin plating on toroid bases. The alloy and plating decide solderability after storage, which is a real failure mode on parts that sit in a warehouse for a year.

Before You Release The Board
- Confirm both pin distance and row distance on the dimensioned drawing, not only on the summary.
- Check pin pull-out force if the part will be handled during assembly. Some bases publish it before and after soldering.
- Check whether the part is offered with or without terminals. Several toroid bases are available both ways.
