Carbon Fiber Tube
High strength carbon fiber tubing fabricated with unidirectional prepreg and wrapped in 3K plain or twill fabric, in fifteen stock part numbers from 5.0 mm to 242.0 mm nominal inside diameter.

What This Part Is and Why It Exists
High strength carbon fiber tubing is fabricated with unidirectional carbon fiber prepreg. Unlike metal tubing, carbon fiber tubing is designed with layers of fibres oriented at different angles to provide properties designed for a specific application, which is why two tubes of the same diameter can behave completely differently.
A variety of types or grades of carbon fiber tubing are available, as well as various exterior materials. Stock part numbers span standard modulus, high modulus and ultra high modulus grades, wrapped in either 3K plain fabric or 3K twill fabric, all at 1000 mm length.
Four Reasons Buyers Specify This Part
Fibre Placed Where the Load Is
Layers oriented at different angles give properties designed for a specific application, rather than one fixed property like metal tube.
Fifteen Stock Part Numbers
From CT-5.0-7.0 up to CT-236.0-242.0, so most projects find a stock size before paying for a custom wrap.
Three Modulus Grades
Std-Mod, High-Mod and UHM, so stiffness can be raised without adding wall thickness.
Plain or Twill Exterior
3K plain or 3K twill fabric on the outside, in matte or gloss finish.
Where This Part Is Used
- UAV booms and camera rig spans
- Robotic and machine structural members
- Rollers, shafts and idlers where inertia matters
- Sports equipment shafts and frames
Buyers This Part Was Made For
- Machine builders replacing steel or aluminium tube
- UAV and gimbal designers sizing booms
- Equipment makers needing long, light, rigid spans
Three Failure Modes This Part Removes
Metal tube is one compromise
Steel or aluminium gives you a single stiffness for a single weight; composite lets you choose.
Deflection over long spans
A long metal span sags under its own weight; a UHM composite tube of the same diameter does not.
Rotating mass
In rollers and shafts, inertia costs power on every start and stop.

What Can Be Changed
- Custom inside and outside diameter outside the stock table
- Fibre angles selected for the specific load case
- Matte or gloss exterior in plain or twill fabric
- Cut to length, drilled or bonded with metal end fittings
How It Compares
| Roll wrapped UD carbon tube | Fibre angle chosen per application; the best stiffness per gram of the three |
| Pultruded carbon tube | Cheaper for straight axial loads, but weak in torsion and hoop |
| Aluminium tube | Easy to machine and join, but several times heavier for the same bending stiffness |
How to Specify and Order This Part
Start from the deflection limit and the span, not the diameter - diameter is what you solve for. State whether the tube sees bending, torsion or both, because that decides the fibre angles. For bonded end fittings, allow a bond length of several times the wall thickness.

What sizes are available from stock?
Fifteen stock part numbers run from CT-5.0-7.0 at 5.0 mm nominal inside diameter up to CT-236.0-242.0 at 236.0 mm, all at 1000 mm length.
What is the difference between the grades?
Std-Mod, High-Mod and UHM describe increasing fibre modulus. A higher modulus grade raises stiffness without adding wall thickness.
Why is composite tube different from metal tube?
Unlike metal tubing, carbon fiber tubing is designed with layers of fibres oriented at different angles to provide properties designed for a specific application.
Can you make a size that is not in the table?
Yes. A variety of types and grades are available, as well as various exterior materials, so custom diameters and wall thicknesses are quoted on request.
