Carbide Rods

Tungsten Carbide Two Helix Coolant Hole Rods

Rod blanks with two helical coolant channels for deep hole drilling tools

  • Coolant reaches the tip. Internal channels deliver coolant where an external supply cannot reach once the drill is inside the hole.
  • Formed not drilled. Channels are formed with the blank so they follow the helix cleanly along the full length.
  • Matched to your flute geometry. Helix angle and hole position are agreed against the drill you intend to grind.

Product Overview

Overview

Two helix carbide rods carry two helical coolant channels formed along the length of the blank. Tool makers use them for solid carbide drills that have to deliver coolant to the cutting edge in deep hole and high feed drilling. The helix angle diameter and hole size are matched to the drill geometry you grind.

Application Scenarios

  • Solid carbide deep hole drills
  • High feed drilling in steel and cast iron
  • Coolant through step drills and reamers

Problems It Solves

  • Tool bodies made from high speed steel lose their edge long before the shift ends
  • Deep hole drilling stalls because coolant never reaches the cutting zone
  • Rod stock arrives out of straightness so the grinder loses time on setup
Key Benefits

Why Customers Specify This Product

Coolant reaches the tip

Internal channels deliver coolant where an external supply cannot reach once the drill is inside the hole.

Formed not drilled

Channels are formed with the blank so they follow the helix cleanly along the full length.

Matched to your flute geometry

Helix angle and hole position are agreed against the drill you intend to grind.

Fewer chip jams

Reliable coolant flow keeps chips moving and reduces recutting inside the flute.

Technical Features

Technical Features

  • Two helical coolant channels through the full rod length
  • Helix angle agreed with the tool geometry
  • Sinter-HIP densified body
  • Sintered or ground outside diameter
Materials

Material and Grade

Cemented tungsten carbide consisting of tungsten carbide grain in a cobalt binder. Binder content and grain size are chosen against your load case because hardness and toughness move in opposite directions. Our engineers propose a direction and explain the trade off rather than quoting a grade code you cannot verify. See the grade guide.

How It Is Made

Manufacturing Process and Quality Control

Every part follows the same production route. Critical dimensions are agreed on the drawing so both sides measure the same thing.

1. Powder PreparationBall milling and spray drying to a uniform granulate
2. PressingBlank pressed with machining stock where required
3. Sinter-HIPDensified under isostatic pressure to reduce porosity
4. MachiningGrinding EDM and lapping to the approved drawing
5. InspectionCritical dimensions checked before packing
6. Export PackingProtected packing for air or sea freight
Certifications

Certificate copies and material documentation are supplied on request with your order. We do not publish certificate claims that we cannot show you so ask for exactly what your import or QA process requires and we will confirm what can be provided.

Customization Options
  • Dimensions to your drawing
  • Grade direction matched to the load case
  • Surface condition as sintered ground or lapped
  • Part marking on request
  • Packing adapted to air or sea freight
Compared With Other Options
  • Versus hardened tool steel — far better wear resistance but more brittle so mounting matters
  • Versus other carbide in this range — see the related products below for the closest alternative form
  • Versus a fabricated assembly — a one piece carbide part removes joints and alignment work

Use Guide

Fitting and Service Guide

  • Check the seat is clean and undamaged before fitting. Uneven support is the most common cause of early failure.
  • Use even pressure. Never drive a carbide part into a holder by impact.
  • Follow the interference fit agreed on the drawing rather than adjusting the carbide.
  • Store parts separated and supported. Carbide chips carbide when parts knock together.
  • Log the run time achieved so replacement becomes planned maintenance.

FAQ

Carbide Two Helix Rods FAQ

What helix angle do you supply?
The helix angle is set against the drill geometry you grind. Send the flute drawing or the reference tool and we will confirm what we can produce.
Can you supply both solid and coolant hole rods in one order?
Yes. Solid rods two helix rods chamfered rods and custom rods are produced on the same line and can ship together.
Are the coolant holes drilled after sintering?
No. The channels are formed with the blank so they follow the helix through the full length rather than being cross drilled afterwards.
