Carbide Pins

Tungsten Carbide Pins Studs and Horseshoe Pins

Wear resistant pins for tyre skid studs horseshoe grips and machine wear seats

  • Tip stays sharp. The carbide tip resists the flattening that ends the useful life of a steel stud.
  • Consistent batch dimensions. Diameter and length stay consistent across large production quantities which matters for automatic pressing.
  • Fits your holder. Pin geometry is matched to the holder or shoe you already use.

Product Overview

Overview

Tungsten carbide pins and horseshoe pins with very good wear resistance. They are pressed into steel holders in tyre studs horseshoes bearing seats and machine wear positions where the working tip has to keep its shape after long contact with hard abrasive surfaces.

Application Scenarios

  • Tyre skid studs for winter and off road tyres
  • Horseshoe grip pins
  • Bearing seats and wear pins in automotive assemblies
  • Locating pins in abrasive environments

Problems It Solves

  • Steel studs wear flat within a season and grip is lost on ice and hard ground
  • Soft pins deform in the seat and become difficult to replace
  • Small parts are hard to buy in consistent quality at production volume
Key Benefits

Why Customers Specify This Product

Tip stays sharp

The carbide tip resists the flattening that ends the useful life of a steel stud.

Consistent batch dimensions

Diameter and length stay consistent across large production quantities which matters for automatic pressing.

Fits your holder

Pin geometry is matched to the holder or shoe you already use.

High volume production

Small parts are produced in production batches rather than assembled from odd stock.

Technical Features

Technical Features

  • Cylindrical pin body with formed working tip
  • Ground diameter for press fit
  • Batch consistent length
  • Tip geometry to drawing or sample
Materials

Material and Grade

Cemented tungsten carbide consisting of tungsten carbide grain in a cobalt binder. Binder content and grain size are chosen against your load case because hardness and toughness move in opposite directions. Our engineers propose a direction and explain the trade off rather than quoting a grade code you cannot verify. See the grade guide.

How It Is Made

Manufacturing Process and Quality Control

Every part follows the same production route. Critical dimensions are agreed on the drawing so both sides measure the same thing.

1. Powder PreparationBall milling and spray drying to a uniform granulate
2. PressingBlank pressed with machining stock where required
3. Sinter-HIPDensified under isostatic pressure to reduce porosity
4. MachiningGrinding EDM and lapping to the approved drawing
5. InspectionCritical dimensions checked before packing
6. Export PackingProtected packing for air or sea freight
Certifications

Certificate copies and material documentation are supplied on request with your order. We do not publish certificate claims that we cannot show you so ask for exactly what your import or QA process requires and we will confirm what can be provided.

Customization Options
  • Dimensions to your drawing
  • Grade direction matched to the load case
  • Surface condition as sintered ground or lapped
  • Part marking on request
  • Packing adapted to air or sea freight
Compared With Other Options
  • Versus hardened tool steel — far better wear resistance but more brittle so mounting matters
  • Versus other carbide in this range — see the related products below for the closest alternative form
  • Versus a fabricated assembly — a one piece carbide part removes joints and alignment work

Use Guide

Fitting and Service Guide

  • Check the seat is clean and undamaged before fitting. Uneven support is the most common cause of early failure.
  • Use even pressure. Never drive a carbide part into a holder by impact.
  • Follow the interference fit agreed on the drawing rather than adjusting the carbide.
  • Store parts separated and supported. Carbide chips carbide when parts knock together.
  • Log the run time achieved so replacement becomes planned maintenance.

FAQ

Carbide Pins and Studs FAQ

Can you copy the pin we use now?
Send a sample or clear photos with measured dimensions. We will make a drawing for your approval and quote against it.
Do you supply the steel holder as well as the carbide pin?
Our production covers the carbide part. Tell us the holder dimensions so the press fit is correct on your assembly line.
How consistent are dimensions across a large batch?
Pins are pressed and ground in production batches with dimensional checks. Tell us the tolerance your assembly machine needs before you order.
