Product Overview
Caustic Soda Flakes 99% Explained
Caustic soda flakes, also known as sodium hydroxide, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaOH. It is strongly alkaline and highly corrosive. It works as an acid neutraliser, a masking and precipitating agent, a chromogenic agent, a saponifying agent, a peeling agent and a detergent.
The flake form has more surface area per kilogram than a pearl, so it goes into solution quickly. That is why flakes remain the default in paper mills, textile mills and soap plants where a batch tank has to be brought to strength inside a shift.

What This Grade Fixes On Your Site
Slow Batch Make Up
Flakes present a large surface area for their mass, so a stirred tank reaches working strength faster than with a coarser solid form.
Iron Staining In Sensitive Processes
Iron as Fe2O3 is held at 0.005% maximum, which is ten times tighter than our pearl and solid grades and matters in textile and paper applications.
Chloride Sensitive Equipment
Chlorides are held at 0.03% maximum, which helps where stainless steel corrosion is a concern in the dosing loop.
Handling Big Volumes By Hand
Jumbo bags remove most of the manual bag cutting on a site that consumes several tonnes a day.

Manufacturing Process
From Production Line To Sealed Container
25 kg bag or jumbo bag. Customised packaging and labels are accepted. Shipping by sea or railway upon availability.
Production
Industrial grade caustic soda produced strictly to the national standard GB 209-2006.
Flaking
Molten caustic soda is flaked onto a chilled surface and broken into thin plates.
Bagging
Flakes are packed into 25 kg bags or jumbo bags on our own line and sealed.
Warehousing
Sealed bags are stored under cover so the product does not pick up moisture.
Loading
Bags are palletised or floor stacked and the container is squared off before sealing.
Quality Control and Standards
Checked Before It Leaves Our Yard
Production of industrial grade caustic soda follows the national standard GB 209-2006. Export products are checked by quality inspection agencies such as SGS CIQ and INTERTEK.
- Every batch produced to GB 209-2006 industrial grade specifications
- Flake thickness and appearance checked during production
- Purity carbonate chloride and iron confirmed against the specification
- Net weight 25.0 kg and gross weight 25.1 kg verified on the bag
- Export lots inspected by SGS CIQ or INTERTEK at your instruction

Use Guide
Making Up A Solution Safely
Sodium hydroxide releases a large amount of heat when it dissolves. The order in which you combine the materials is the single most important control.
- Always add flakes to water and never water to flakes.
- Charge the flakes slowly into stirred cold water so the exotherm is carried away.
- Let the solution cool before transferring or dosing it.
- Use chemical splash goggles a face shield gloves and chemical resistant clothing.
- Reseal part used bags at once. Open flakes absorb moisture and carbon dioxide from air.
- Store dry and away from acids aluminium zinc and organic material.
Storage
Keeping The Product In Specification
- Store in a dry covered area away from rain and standing water
- Keep bags closed and reseal any pack that has been opened
- Segregate from acids aluminium zinc and organic materials
- Keep the class 8 label visible on stacked stock
- Rotate stock so older pallets are consumed first
FAQ
Caustic Soda Flakes 99% Questions
Answers to the questions buyers ask us most often before placing a first order
Purity NaOH 99.0% minimum, carbonate Na2CO3 0.5% maximum, chlorides NaCl 0.03% maximum and iron Fe2O3 0.005% maximum.
Yes. Flakes are packed in 25 kg bags or in jumbo bags. Tell us which handling equipment you use and we will recommend the pack.
Customised packaging and labels are accepted. Send the artwork and bag size with your enquiry.
Lead time is within 7 to 10 days after order confirmation. Shipping is by sea or by railway depending on availability to your destination.
The flake grade is held to 0.005% maximum iron because it is widely used in textile printing and dyeing and in paper making where iron can show up as staining.
It is used for delignification. Adding caustic soda solution dissolves and separates the non cellulose components of the wood so that pulp with cellulose as the main component is produced.
