A W shaped wire form clip designed to work with a moulded plastic component, where the wire provides the spring action and the plastic provides the interface to the product. The W profile gives two contact points instead of one, spreading the hold.
The W geometry holds at two positions, which stops a part rotating in a way a simple U clip allows.
The wire profile is formed to the plastic part it fits, so the two behave as one component.
Each material does what it is good at rather than asking the plastic to be a spring.
Verify the fit with the actual production moulding rather than a prototype. Shrinkage between prototype and tooled parts is the usual reason a proven clip suddenly does not fit.
