Seal A Golden Sample Before Anything Else

Written specifications drift; physical objects do not. Approve one sample per SKU, have the factory seal and retain it, and keep an identical one yourself. Every repeat order is then matched against an object. This single step prevents most importer disputes.

Ask For The Certificate Scope Not Just The Certificate

A CE certificate covers specific models against specific directives. Ask which models the certificate names, which directive it is issued against, and which test standards were applied. For LED string light that normally means the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and the Low Voltage Directive, with RoHS covered separately under the amending Annex EU 2015/863.

Nail Down The Specification Line By Line

Bulb type, cable type and core size, cable colour, bulb spacing, run length, controller, end plug and packing. Anything left unstated will be decided by the factory in your absence, and usually in favour of cost.

Understand The Production Queue

Decorative lighting is intensely seasonal and the factory queue forms early. Standard items run 7 to 9 days and custom work 20 to 30 days after sample approval, but the constraint in August is the queue, not the cycle time. Book the slot against your selling window.

Plan The Container Before You Plan The Range

Decorative lighting is bulky and light, so containers cube out long before they weigh out. Send your line list with quantities and get a loading plan back. It frequently changes which SKUs are worth carrying.

Private Label Is About Packaging Lead Time

OEM and ODM branding on the product is straightforward. What catches importers out is packaging: artwork, print runs and box tooling sit on a separate and often longer clock than the goods. Start that conversation at the same time as sampling, not after it.
