Country of origin has become a specification line on many US hotel projects. What actually drives the decision

Three things: the client's own sourcing requirement, the landed cost including duty, and whether the category in question has a mature Vietnamese manufacturing base. Hotel furniture and vanity cabinets do. Not every category does.

Splitting a package across two countries adds a consolidation problem. The answer is to consolidate by room set rather than by factory, so the site still receives complete rooms even though the contents were produced in two places.

Lead time and logistics differences

Different ports, different sailing schedules and different inland transport. Where a schedule is at risk, the production sequence or the shipping method can be adjusted, which is easier to do when both origins sit inside the same procurement programme.
