Ultrasonic Bonding Versus Sewing For Disposable Non Woven Products
Why disposable bed covers, dust bags, filters and glove liners moved from thread to ultrasonic welding, and where each method still makes sense.
Thread Perforates What It Joins
A sewn seam is a line of holes held together by thread. On a bed cover it is a hygiene question, on a dust bag or pocket filter it is a performance question, because unfiltered air and fine dust take the easiest path, which is the needle line. Ultrasonic welding bonds the layers themselves and leaves no holes.
Labour Is The Second Argument
Sewing needs operators, thread stock, needle inspection and rework. Our medical bed cover line carries 14 sets of high-power screen-following ultrasonic moulds and produces the bond at machine speed, which removes the sewing team from the line entirely.

Where Ultrasonic Bonding Needs Care
Ultrasonic welding works on thermoplastic fibres such as PP and polyester, and behaves differently on blended or high-viscose material. It also generates heat in the stack, which is why our pocket filter machine includes a cooling system for continuous running.

Checks Worth Running Before You Commit
Ask for weld strength testing on your own fabric, not a generic sample. We run customer material during factory run-off and record the settings, because the same nominal fabric from two suppliers can weld differently.

Questions On This Topic
Can ultrasonic bonding be used on all non woven?
It works on thermoplastic fibres such as PP and polyester. Send a sample and we test weld strength before you order.
Is an ultrasonic seam as strong as a sewn one?
For disposable products it is generally strong enough and it does not perforate the material. For reusable heavy textiles sewing still has a place.
How many ultrasonic mould sets do we need?
It depends on the bond pattern. Our AQ-B bed cover machines carry 14 sets, and the number is configured to your product before the machine is built.
