Stainless Steel Hollow Hemisphere

Maoping Stainless Steel Hollow Hemisphere or Stainless Steel Half Ball can be used for elevator decoration and gate decoration. Also, inner polishing is available on demand.

Material
AISI 304, AISI 316, AISI 316L
Minimum order
1 piece on this category unless a small-size minimum applies
Lead time
1 to 3 days from stock, 7 to 15 days for scheduled production

Product Overview

Hollow balls with material of #201 #304 #316 are able to get a remarkable weight saving and keep the properties of the correspondent solid balls (mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, magnetism). The low density value allows balls to float.

Key Benefits

  • Material:
  • AISI/SUS/SS 201/304/316 Stainless Steel
  • Size:
  • 25mm-2000mm or as customized
  • Thickness:
  • 0.8mm-2mm or as customized

Application Scenarios

  • Pressure vessel and tank ends
  • Pharmaceutical and food mixing bowls
  • Ceiling decoration domes
  • Traffic corner safety mirror domes
  • Sphere assembly

Who It Is For

  • Pressure vessel and tank fabricators
  • Pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food processing equipment builders
  • Architectural fit-out contractors specifying ceiling domes
  • Road safety product suppliers

Problems It Solves

  • Product burn-on in the corner of a torispherical head. A true hemisphere removes the corner.
  • Agitator blades that miss the wall. The extra smooth contour lets blades sweep the surface properly.
  • Poor draining and weak vacuum performance on vessel ends. The hemispherical shape improves both.

Technical Features

  • Drilling and tapping in metric and unified threads on request
  • Base plates, pedestal tubes and hanging fittings fabricated with the piece
  • Sheet development calculated in house, so non-standard sizes are possible above ∅200mm

Materials

We form spheres and hemispheres in AISI 304, AISI 316 and AISI 316L stainless steel, Q235 carbon steel, H62 brass alloy and A6061 aluminium alloy. The alloy decides corrosion resistance, weight and how the surface takes a polish.

For this product the standard specification is AISI 304, AISI 316, AISI 316L. Tell us the site conditions and we will confirm whether a different grade is worth the cost.

Manufacturing Process

Forming happens by stamping press, water pressuring, spinning or hand assembling. Two halves are joined at the equator, the weld is ground, and the surface is finished last, after any cutting or drilling has been done.

How a metal sphere is made Sheet is cut into blanks, formed into two hemispheres by stamping press, spinning or water pressuring, welded at the equator, ground, then mirror polished into a finished sphere. Quality Control

  1. Incoming material

Alloy and sheet thickness are checked against the order before any blank is cut.

  2. Forming check

Diameter and wall are measured after pressing, spinning or water pressuring.

  3. Weld and grind

The equator weld is inspected, then welds and burrs are ground off before finishing.

  4. Surface inspection

Every piece is inspected for scratches, dents and polish consistency under light.

  5. Packing

Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight, and photographs are sent before dispatch.

Customisation Options

  • Diameter and wall thickness to your drawing, with no mould limit above ∅200mm
  • Metric and unified threaded holes, drilled apertures and perforated patterns
  • Welded base tubes, base plates, internal ribs and pedestals
  • Mirror, brushed, sandblasted, etched, electroplated, PVD colour or spray painted finishes
  • Logos, lettering and world maps by sandblasting, etching, laser cutting or plasma cutting
  • LED kits fitted inside the sphere
  • Segmentation into quarters or eighths for sizes above container limits

Comparing forming routes rather than products? The process guide sets out size, thickness, seam and mould limit for each.

Use Guide

  1. Confirm the diameter first

Diameter drives the forming route, the wall thickness, the price and the freight mode. Settle it before anything else.

  2. Match the alloy to the site

304 inland, 316 near salt water or pools, Q235 where a rust patina is wanted, brass or aluminium where weight or colour matters.

  3. Choose the finish last

Finishing always happens after forming, welding, cutting and grinding, so pattern edges stay clean.

  4. Plan the fixing

Tell us whether the piece is bolted, threaded, welded to a base tube or suspended, and we build the fitting into the part.

  5. Check the shipping limit

∅2200mm fits a container, ∅3500mm fits a flat rack, and larger spheres are segmented with bolted ribs.

FAQ

Why is a hemisphere stronger than a torispherical head?
The hemispherical shape is superior in strength and eliminates the corner that causes product burning-on in a torispherical shape.
Can two hemispheres be welded into a complete sphere?
Yes. Spun hemispheres are supplied with a 45° welding groove that closes into a perfect sphere.
Can I order Stainless Steel Hollow Hemisphere in a different size?
Yes above ∅200mm, where there is no standard mould limit. Below ∅250mm a customised size needs a new stamping press mould, charged at USD 1,000.
How is it packed and shipped?
Protective packing is built around the diameter and weight. Samples and small orders go by DHL, UPS, FedEx or Aramex in 3 to 7 days. Larger orders go by air in around 3 days to your airport or by sea in 15 to 30 days.
What do you need from me to quote?
Diameter, wall thickness, material, finish, quantity and delivery country. A drawing or a photo helps and can be sent over WhatsApp.
