Buying LED Fixtures With or Without Drivers for a Project

Choose DRIVE: DONE or DRIVE: Without based on centralised or integral driver use. Inputs AC85-265V or DC24V. Confirm system design before ordering.

When to Choose Fixtures With Built-in Drivers

Fixtures labelled DRIVE: DONE include a driver inside the housing. Use these when the project has no centralised power distribution, or when the fixture is isolated from a control panel. They are suitable for small installations, retrofit work, or where space for a panel is limited.

When to Choose Fixtures Without Drivers

Fixtures labelled DRIVE: Without are supplied without a driver. Use these when the project uses a centralised driver system in a control panel. This approach reduces cost per fixture, simplifies maintenance, and allows for shared control across multiple units.

Input Voltage Options Are Clear on Product Pages

All fixtures support AC85-265V or DC24V inputs. The voltage must match the system design. Confirm whether the central driver or the fixture’s internal driver will handle the input, and ensure the wiring and control system are compatible with the selected input type.

Centralised Drivers Require System-Level Planning

When using site-supplied drivers, the project must include a control panel with sufficient capacity, proper heat dissipation, and protection against voltage fluctuations. The driver must be rated for the total load of all connected fixtures and must match the input voltage and output current.

Confirm the Driver Type Before Ordering

Before placing an order, confirm whether the project uses centralised drivers or integral drivers. Check the fixture’s driver specification against the system design. FENGDIAN does not supply drivers unless specified as DRIVE: DONE.

Mixed Configurations Are Allowed

Projects may mix fixtures with and without drivers. For example, a central panel can power multiple fixtures without drivers, while isolated units use built-in drivers. Ensure all components are compatible and that the control system supports the configuration.

FAQ

Questions About This Topic

Do fixtures without drivers include a driver at all?

No. Fixtures labelled DRIVE: Without are supplied without a driver. The driver must be provided separately by the buyer.

Can I use a central driver with a fixture that has a built-in driver?

No. A fixture with an internal driver cannot be used with a central driver. The internal driver will conflict with the external one, causing failure or damage.

What happens if I order a fixture with a driver when I need a driverless version?

The fixture will be supplied with a driver. If you need a driverless version, you must specify DRIVE: Without during the order process.

Are the drivers in fixtures rated for AC85-265V or DC24V?

The drivers included in DRIVE: DONE fixtures support AC85-265V or DC24V inputs. Confirm the system voltage before ordering.

Can I use a DC24V driver with an AC85-265V fixture?

Only if the fixture is designed for both inputs. Check the product page for supported inputs. If the fixture is AC-only, do not use a DC driver.
