Why do plain drywall screws stain the wall?
Black phosphate is a very thin conversion coating. Once moisture gets to the steel the corrosion product wicks into the board and shows through paint.
Is stainless soft enough to strip?
It is softer than a hardened carbon steel screw, so drive speed matters. For steel stud fixing ask about the 410 grade, which can be hardened.
