Flat Head Winged Tek Screws
Flat head self-drilling screws with serrations and wings behind the point. The wings ream a clearance hole through the timber or the top sheet so the thread only engages the steel underneath, and the serrated head countersinks itself flush.

What are the wings actually for?
Without them the thread starts biting the timber before the point has finished drilling the steel, and the two layers jack apart. The wings hold a clearance hole open until the point is through.
When do I need the No.5 point instead?
The No.5 point is the one to ask for when you are drilling and tightening into thicker sheet than the lower-numbered points are rated to cut.
