Specification data
Specification reference
The selection tables we work from, set out so they can be read and checked against your own drawing. Everything here is specification range — it is not a stock list and it is not a substitute for a quotation.

Head, drive, point and thread options
Each of these is specified independently of the others, so a head from the first table can be combined with any drive from the second and any point from the third.

Surface finishes and corrosion
Finish families
| Family | Finishes in it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Bare | Plain | No coating; for stainless, or where the part is coated later |
| Zinc | Zinc plated · colour zinc · blue zinc · white zinc · black zinc | Sacrificial zinc under a passivate; the passivate sets appearance and life |
| Phosphate | Black phosphate · grey phosphate | Conversion coating; holds oil and paint, modest protection on its own |
| Oxide | Black oxide | Conversion coating with an oil film; largely cosmetic |
| High performance | Dacrotized · Ruspert · Xylan | Where the fixing must stay outdoors for years and stainless is more than needed |
| Decorative / functional | Nickel · bronze · spray paint | Appearance, colour matching to coated sheet, or specific surface properties |
Salt spray: 24 – 2000 hours, depending on material and finish, and
up to 3000 hours on the stainless self-drilling line. This is a comparative cabinet test, not a service life.
Coating thickness is part of the specification — on the black bugle head line the
plating can be laid down at 15µm so it carries the anti-corrosion duty.
Materials and property classes
Material groups
| Group | Grades | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon & alloy steel | C1006 · C1008 · C1018 · C1022 · 10B21 | Mild, medium carbon and alloy steel. 10B21 is boron treated for case hardening |
| Austenitic stainless | SUS201 · 202 · 302 · 304 · 305 · 316 | Corrosion performers; non-magnetic annealed. 316 for chloride exposure |
| Martensitic / ferritic stainless | SUS410 · 430 | Magnetic. 410 hardens, which is why it appears in self drilling points |
| Brass | Brass | Conductivity, appearance, non-sparking work |
| Aluminium | Aluminium | Where weight matters more than strength |
Property classes
| System | Classes | Reading it |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon & alloy steel | 4.8 · 5.8 · 6.8 · 8.8 · 10.9 · 12.9 | First figure = tensile/100 MPa; second = 10 × yield-to-tensile ratio |
| Stainless | A2-70 · A2-80 · A4-70 · A4-80 | A2 = chromium-nickel (≈304); A4 = molybdenum-bearing (≈316); number = tensile class |

No PDF catalogue here, on purpose.
A general catalogue is out of date the day it is printed and tells you less than the
tables above. Ask by email for a specification sheet against a specific item and a
specific standard, and we will send what exists for it.

Need this against a specific part?
Name the item code and the specification you are checking it against. We will confirm, in writing, what that part is actually made to.
