What this sector asks of a fastener
Furniture fixing is mostly about not splitting the board and not showing the fixing. That means the head profile — countersunk, bugle, wafer or truss — and the recess do more work than the material grade. Type 17 points start in timber without a pilot hole; Phillips four-rib and Pozidriv recesses are what keep a long screw from camming out before it reaches depth.
