What makes 316 different from 304?
Molybdenum. It is what lets 316 resist pitting in chloride — sea air, pool halls, de-icing salt — where 304 will eventually pit.
Do these need a pre-drilled hole?
Yes. A self-tapping screw forms the thread but does not drill the hole. If you want one operation, use a self-drilling screw.
