Flat head self-drilling screws. A self-drilling screw drills, taps and tightens in one action, which is why its case and core hardness both have to run higher than a self-tapping screw of the same size. Every batch is drill tested against a time limit.

What is the drill test you refer to?
The screw has to drill its hole and form the thread within a set time. A point that takes longer is burning rather than cutting, and on site that is the screw that snaps or work-hardens the hole.
Self-drilling or self-tapping for my job?
If the steel is over about 1mm the self-drilling screw makes its own hole. Below that a self-tapping screw into a pre-punched hole is faster and cheaper.
