Nickel Plated Tower Compression Spring

A tower, or conical, compression spring plated in nickel. The coils reduce in diameter along the body so that they telescope into one another when compressed, which gives a solid height close to a single wire thickness where a cylindrical spring would need many times that.

Key Benefits

Why This Part Is Built the Way It Is

Very low solid height

Telescoping coils let the spring compress almost flat, which makes it the answer where travel is long and installed depth is short.

Rising rate under load

As the larger coils bottom out first, the effective rate increases through the stroke, giving a soft start and a firm finish.

Stable without a guide

The conical profile resists buckling, so it can often be used where a cylindrical spring would need a rod or a bore.

Who It Is For

Where This Part Is Used

  • Shallow mechanism positions with long travel
  • Battery contact and electrical assemblies
  • Appliance and consumer product mechanisms

How to Use It

Mount the spring with the large end against the fixed seat where possible. This keeps the smaller, more delicate end coils away from the moving contact face.

Problems It Solves

What Goes Wrong Without It

Cylindrical springs whose solid height uses up all the available space

Tall springs buckling in mechanisms with no room for a guide rod

Certification Status

ISO 9001, SGS certificate and RoHS report (stated on the legacy site, certificates pending re-confirmation). Certificate copies are sent on request once re-confirmed.

Comparison

How It Compares

Against a cylindrical spring of the same force, a tower spring occupies far less space when compressed and has a rising rather than constant rate, which suits some mechanisms and not others.

Questions About This Part

Can a tower spring fully telescope to one wire thickness?

Only if the pitch and the diameter progression are designed for it. Tell us the closed height you need and we will confirm what is achievable.

Does the spring rate stay constant?

No, and that is often the point. The rate rises as the larger coils close, giving progressive resistance.

Is nickel plating necessary?

It is chosen for appearance and wear where the spring is visible or handled. Zinc is the cheaper alternative for hidden positions.
