A torsion spring clip for door lock and latch mechanisms, galvanised for the moisture that gets into an external door lock. It returns the latch or the handle, which means it operates every time the door is used and fails in the most visible way possible when it gives up.
External door mechanisms see condensation and driven rain. Galvanising handles that far better than plain zinc.
A handle that returns slowly reads as a broken lock. Heat treatment and set removal keep the force where it started.
Leg geometry is made for the specific lock body rather than adapted on assembly, which matters in a tightly packed mechanism.
Fit the spring so the handle's resting position is set by the lock stop, not by the spring reaching its free angle. A spring that is the end stop wears rapidly at the leg.

Against a plain zinc plated lock spring, galvanising costs marginally more and adds years in an exposed door. Inside a dry interior door, zinc is adequate.
