2 mm wire covers the majority of general machinery extension spring requirements without oversizing the mounting.

Identical hooks simplify assembly, since the fitter does not have to check orientation.
Anchor the hooks on pins that are smaller than the hook opening, and never load the spring beyond the maximum extension quoted for it.

The 2 mm and 3 mm double hook springs are the same design in two sizes. Choose 2 mm for lighter loads and tighter spaces, 3 mm where the load justifies the larger anchor points.
Wire diameter. At 3 mm the spring carries substantially more load for the same coil geometry, and needs a correspondingly stronger anchor.
