Start With What Touches The Panel

Rain and grit: galvanized carbon steel. Cleaning chemicals, chlorides, food contact areas or constant damp: stainless steel. That single question settles most specifications before anyone opens a price list.

Strength Is Not The Deciding Factor

Both materials are available in sections that will carry what you need. Specifying stainless for strength usually means paying for corrosion resistance you do not need, and specifying carbon steel in a washdown area means replacing it.

Total Cost Over The Asset Life

A galvanized panel in a chemical washdown may be replaced several times inside the life of a stainless one. A stainless panel in a dry warehouse is money that could have gone into a deeper section.

Do Not Mix Metals At The Fixings

Stainless panels with galvanized clips, or the reverse, corrode at the contact. Fixings are supplied in matching material for this reason.
