Solution
Structured Light 3D and Curved Surface Inspection
Structured lighting research aimed at parts where a flat two dimensional image cannot separate a real defect from a shadow.
Overview
What This Covers
As a technical company SBS Vision does not only supply products, it also invests in innovation and creativity so the product lines keep pace with customer demand. A significant part of that effort has gone into structured lights for 3D inspection and curved surface inspection.
Curved and specular parts are the classic case where a flat two dimensional image cannot tell a real defect from a shadow. Structuring the illumination, rather than simply adding more of it, is what makes the geometry readable.
Process
From Requirement To Delivery
Identify The Geometry Problem
Establish whether the feature is a height, a slope or a surface mark. Each one needs a different illumination structure.
Select Or Design The Structured Light
Dome, flat dome, square dome and collimated coaxial geometries all shape the light differently across a curved surface.
Match The Optics
Depth of field, working distance and magnification are set so the whole curved feature stays within tolerance across the field.
Prove The Contrast
The measure of success is contrast between good and bad on the real part, not brightness in a datasheet.
Transfer To Production
The proven geometry becomes a repeatable part number for the line.
