Glass Suspension Insulators

Toughened glass disc insulators for transmission line suspension and tension strings, from 40kN to 160kN.

Problems this range solves

What Buyers Come To Us With

  • Punctured discs that a ground or aerial patrol cannot identify
  • Pollution flashover on strings that cannot be washed often enough
  • Coupling mismatch between new discs and installed string hardware
  • String length set without reference to creepage per disc
Core advantages

What The Range Gives You

  • U-series from U40B at 40kN through U160B at 160kN
  • Creepage per disc from 185mm to 400mm
  • Aerodynamic profile discs that shed wind-blown dust between washes
  • Mechanical routine testing on every disc, from 20kN to 80kN by rating
Who it is for

Suited To

  • Transmission line contractors
  • Utility line engineering teams
  • Project distributors supplying string hardware
Application scenarios

Where It Is Used

  • Suspension and tension strings on transmission lines
  • Desert and coastal corridors with heavy deposits
  • Re-insulation of lines with a flashover history
  • Replacement of individual failed discs
Questions

Glass Suspension Insulators Questions

Why glass rather than porcelain?
A punctured toughened glass disc shatters and is visible from the ground during a patrol. A punctured porcelain disc usually looks intact and has to be found by instrument.
Which ratings do you supply?
U40B at 40kN, U70B at 70kN, U100B at 100kN, U120B at 120kN and U160B at 160kN, plus the aerodynamic XYAY series.
What creepage does each disc contribute?
185mm on the U40B, 320mm on the U70B through U120B and 400mm on the U160B.
What routine test is applied?
A mechanical routine test on every disc, at 20kN for the U40B rising to 80kN for the U160B.
Which standard applies?
The aerodynamic series is specified and tested in accordance with IEC 60383, and the U-series follows the IEC designations.
