HNBR material seals are used where the sealed medium is cold and the elastomer still has to stay flexible and hold its sealing force. The material is predominantly applied to cold medium sealing, and that property carries it into automotive work such as power steering pipes and automotive oil seals, and into industrial equipment including packer and screw pumps as well as general o-ring positions. Seals are supplied in HNBR compound to the profile and dimensions of the position they seal, so an existing gland does not have to be modified to accept them.
Cold medium capability keeps the seal pliable where a stiffer compound would lose contact and leak at low temperature
Proven in power steering pipes and automotive oil seals so the material choice is not experimental for vehicle work
Suits packer and screw pump duty where the seal is hard to reach once the equipment is installed
Supplied as o-rings and as shaped seals so one material choice covers several positions in the same machine
Made to the existing gland dimensions so no housing rework is needed on a replacement
Compounds that stiffen in cold media lose contact force and start to leak
Seal failure in a power steering pipe shows up as a vehicle level fluid loss complaint
Replacing a pump seal means stripping equipment, so a short seal life is expensive in downtime
Sourcing o-rings and shaped seals in the same compound from different vendors gives inconsistent behaviour
Substitute seals that do not match the original gland force housing modification

HNBR is chosen where the medium is cold and the seal must stay flexible in that service
FKM is directed at chemical and high temperature duty while HNBR covers cold medium sealing

Power steering pipes and automotive oil seals are the common positions.
Yes. Both o-rings and shaped seals are made in HNBR, so several positions in the same machine can use one compound.
Packer and screw pumps are typical, alongside general o-ring positions in industrial assemblies.
Yes. Send the drawing or a clean sample and the seal is made to those dimensions so the existing gland does not need changing.
Tolerance depends on the seal size and profile and is agreed against your drawing and confirmed with the quotation.
Send the drawing, capacity or duty cycle you need and we will come back with the factory match, the build detail and the commercial terms.
