Two fluorine based sealing families for the positions where a general purpose elastomer will not survive. FKM o-rings are made from fluoroelastomer and resist a wide range of chemicals and temperatures, which covers petroleum products, hydraulic fluids and acidic compounds. FFKM o-rings are perfluoroelastomer and go further, withstanding even the most aggressive chemicals, which is why they are specified in semiconductor manufacturing and chemical processing including seals for reactors, mixers and transfer systems. Choosing between them is a question of how aggressive the medium is and what the seal failure would cost in that position.
FKM gives broad chemical and temperature resistance at a lower cost than perfluoroelastomer for petroleum and hydraulic service
FFKM covers almost universal chemical resistance so one seal specification survives a mixed process chemistry
Selecting the right family per position keeps the seal budget on the joints that actually need it
Reactor mixer and transfer system seals in FFKM cut the unplanned shutdowns caused by seal attack
Both families supplied from one source so a plant can standardise its fluoroelastomer seal supply
General purpose elastomers are attacked by process chemicals and fail between planned shutdowns
Specifying FFKM everywhere overspends on positions where FKM would be adequate
Seal swelling in hydraulic fluid changes the squeeze and the joint starts to leak
Contaminated product batches caused by a degrading seal in a reactor or transfer system
Splitting FKM and FFKM supply across vendors makes material substitution hard to control
| FKM Material | Fluoroelastomer |
|---|---|
| FFKM Material | Perfluoroelastomer |
| FKM Media | Petroleum products hydraulic fluids acidic compounds |
| FFKM Applications | Semiconductor manufacturing and chemical processing |
| Chemical Processing Use | Seals for reactors mixers and transfer systems |

Handles petroleum products hydraulic fluids and acidic compounds at a lower cost than perfluoroelastomer
Withstands the most aggressive chemicals and suits semiconductor and chemical processing positions
Nitrile is limited to hydrocarbon contact and is attacked where a fluoroelastomer is required

FKM handles petroleum products, hydraulic fluids and acidic compounds across a wide temperature range. Where the chemistry is that severe but not more, FKM is the sensible choice.

Yes. Ring dimensions are made to the groove in your equipment rather than taken from a fixed size list.
Send the full list of media, the working temperature and the pressure. The material is then proposed for each position with the quotation.
It depends on the material, the size and whether tooling exists, and it is confirmed in writing with the quotation.
Send the drawing, capacity or duty cycle you need and we will come back with the factory match, the build detail and the commercial terms.
