Hot-Dip Galvanizing and Corrosion Protection

Coating weight is the specification clause that most often decides whether barrier passes inspection. It is also the one most easily cut by a supplier working to a price. Hongda operates its own galvanizing workshop, which is what makes the coating weight a controlled process rather than something bought in from a subcontractor and hoped for.

Process

How It Works End to End

Why Coating Weight Matters

Guardrail sits exposed at the roadside for its whole service life. The zinc layer is what stands between the steel and the weather, so the coating weight written into the tender is the number the inspector measures on delivery.

The Specification We Work To

On W-beam, thrie-beam, flex beam and box beam the source specification is a zinc coating of 550 g/m2, which measures around 80 microns.

In-House Galvanizing

Sections are hot-dip galvanized in our own galvanizing workshop. Keeping the bath in house means the coating weight is controlled by us rather than by a third party working to their own schedule.

Passivation

The passivation ratio is controlled precisely so that the galvanized surface resists corrosion. This is applied to posts, terminals, curved sections and buffers alike.

Inspection

Coating thickness is checked after galvanizing against the requirement for the order, alongside section dimensions and hole pattern.

Environmental Handling

Hot-dip galvanizing generates harmful wastewater. We operate our own wastewater treatment station and environmental treatment equipment to reduce it, alongside a wastewater treatment workshop on site.

Benefits

What You Get

  • Zinc coating of 550 g/m2, around 80 microns, on the main beam products
  • Galvanizing carried out in our own workshop, not subcontracted out
  • Passivation ratio controlled precisely for corrosion resistance
  • Coating thickness checked after galvanizing as part of inspection
  • On-site wastewater treatment for the effluent galvanizing produces

Hot-Dip Galvanizing and Corrosion Protection Questions

What zinc coating weight do you apply?
550 g/m2, which measures around 80 microns, on W-beam, thrie-beam, flex beam and box beam.
Is galvanizing subcontracted?
No. It is done in our own galvanizing workshop on site, which is what lets us control the coating weight.
How is the galvanized surface passivated?
The passivation ratio is controlled precisely so the galvanized surface resists corrosion.
Can you galvanize to a different coating weight?
Tell us the coating weight in your specification and we will confirm whether we can meet it before quoting.
How do you handle galvanizing wastewater?
We have our own wastewater treatment station and environmental treatment equipment, which reduces the harmful wastewater generated by hot-dip galvanizing.
