In Place Inclinometers
In place inclinometers are left installed in the casing so a borehole is read continuously instead of being surveyed by hand. The probe is IP68 rated at 28 by 28 by 324 mm with RS485 output as standard and CAN on request, reading plus minus 30 degrees at 0.0005 degree resolution. Interval lengths of 1 m, 2 m and 3 m let a string be built to match the depth of the zone being watched.

Product Overview
In place inclinometers are left installed in the casing so a borehole is read continuously instead of being surveyed by hand. The probe is IP68 rated at 28 by 28 by 324 mm with RS485 output as standard and CAN on request, reading plus minus 30 degrees at 0.0005 degree resolution. Interval lengths of 1 m, 2 m and 3 m let a string be built to match the depth of the zone being watched.
Materials
- Sealed IP68 probe housing
- Connection rods and cable
Key Benefits
- Continuous automated readings instead of periodic manual probe surveys
- Resolution 0.0005 degrees with accuracy of plus minus 0.005 degrees between 0 and 15 degrees
- IP68 probe for permanently installed wet boreholes
- RS485 output connects straight to a data logger, with CAN available
- String built from 1 m, 2 m or 3 m intervals to cover the zone of interest
Application Scenarios And Who It Is For
Application Scenarios
- Automated monitoring of slopes and excavation walls during construction
- Deep excavation and diaphragm wall movement monitoring
- Embankment and dam deformation monitoring
- Tunnelling works where hand surveys are impractical
Who It Is For
- Deep excavation contractors with alarm thresholds to meet
- Slope stability monitoring providers
- Dam and embankment operators running automated instrumentation
- Consultants specifying real-time deformation monitoring
Problems It Solves
- Manual probe surveys that miss movement between site visits
- Boreholes that are unsafe or inaccessible to survey by hand
- Data that arrives too late to trigger a response on an active excavation
- Sensor drift with temperature over a long monitoring campaign
Technical Features
- Output RS485 as default with CAN optional
- Measuring range plus minus 30 degrees
- Resolution 0.0005 degrees and repeatability plus minus 0.003 degrees
- Accuracy plus minus 0.005 degrees from 0 to 15 degrees and plus minus 0.01 degrees from 15 to 30 degrees
- Zero temperature drift plus minus 0.002 degrees per degree C from minus 20 to 60 degrees C
- Probe IP68 with cable diameter 6.6 mm, 60 m default

Comparison With Other Products
| Compared With | Why This Product |
|---|---|
| Geotechnical inclinometer probe surveys | The in place string reads continuously, while the probe gives a full profile only when someone surveys the hole |
| Surface survey targets | The in place string shows where movement occurs with depth rather than only at the surface |
Use Guide
- Install standard grooved inclinometer casing first and check groove alignment
- Assemble the string with the required interval lengths and connection rods
- Lower the string with the wheels tracking in the chosen groove pair
- Record the initial readings and connect the RS485 line to the logger
Questions Buyers Ask
In Place Inclinometers FAQ
What output does the string provide
RS485 as standard. CAN output is available as an option.
What accuracy can we expect
Plus minus 0.005 degrees from 0 to 15 degrees and plus minus 0.01 degrees from 15 to 30 degrees, at 0.0005 degree resolution.
What interval lengths are available
1 m, 2 m and 3 m are supported, and other intervals can be supplied on request.
Is the probe suitable for a permanently wet borehole
The probe is rated IP68 for permanent installation.
What casing does it need
Standard grooved inclinometer casing. We supply ABS, PVC and aluminium casing in OD 70 mm along with couplings and caps.
How long is the supplied cable
Cable diameter is 6.6 mm with 60 m as the default length. Tell us your borehole depth for a longer run.
