Vibrating Wire Strain Gauge
Two vibrating wire strain gauge models are supplied. AT-SG-4051 is a concrete strain gauge for welding to steel structures such as pipe, tunnel support, piles and bridges, or fixing to a surface with screws. AT-SG-4052 is a surface strain gauge in an all stainless steel housing with secondary sealing for long-term monitoring of concrete beams, columns, bracings, retaining walls, linings, piers, footings and bedrock. Both read 1000 microstrain in tension and 1500 microstrain in compression and measure the temperature of the embedded point at the same time.

Materials
- Stainless steel housing on AT-SG-4052
- Vibrating wire sensing element
Key Benefits
- Temperature is measured at the same point, so strain data can be corrected without a separate sensor
- Vibrating wire output is stable over years of embedded service
- AT-SG-4052 has an all stainless steel housing with secondary sealing for wet and buried installations
- Resolution of 0.015 percent FS or better with total error of 1.5 percent FS or better
- Both models share the same 100 mm gauge length and reading range, simplifying site kits
Application Scenarios And Who It Is For
Application Scenarios
- Welding to steel pipe, tunnel supports, piles and bridge members
- Surface mounting with screws for long-term stress and strain monitoring
- Embedded monitoring of concrete beams, columns and bracings
- Retaining walls, hydraulic structures, linings, piers and footings
- Bedrock strain monitoring
Who It Is For
- Structural monitoring contractors instrumenting bridges and tunnels
- Dam and hydraulic structure owners running long-term instrumentation
- Geotechnical consultants specifying embedded gauges
- Universities and testing institutes doing model and field tests
Problems It Solves
- Strain readings that drift because temperature at the gauge is unknown
- Sensors that corrode or lose seal after months in wet concrete
- Mixed sensor types on one project making data reduction harder
- Needing both weld-on and surface-fixed installation from one supplier
Technical Features
- Gauge length 100 mm on both models
- Measuring range 1000 microstrain tension and 1500 microstrain compression
- Resolution 0.015 percent FS or better
- Total error 1.5 percent FS or better
- Temperature measuring range minus 25 degrees C to plus 60 degrees C with accuracy plus minus 0.5 degrees C
- AT-SG-4052 features high pressure resistance, radial force resistance, secondary sealing, zero point stability and an all stainless steel housing

Comparison With Other Products
| Compared With | Why This Product |
|---|---|
| Resistive foil strain gauges | Vibrating wire output is better suited to long-term embedded monitoring over cable runs |
| Vibrating Wire Load Cell | The strain gauge measures structural strain, the load cell measures earth pressure or contact stress |
Use Guide
- Weld AT-SG-4051 to the steel member or fix it to the surface with screws
- Record the initial reading and the temperature at installation
- Protect the cable run from damage during concreting or backfill
- Read with a vibrating wire readout and apply temperature correction
Questions Buyers Ask
Vibrating Wire Strain Gauge FAQ
What is the difference between AT-SG-4051 and AT-SG-4052
AT-SG-4051 is the concrete strain gauge for welding to steel structures or screw fixing. AT-SG-4052 is a surface strain gauge with an all stainless steel housing, secondary sealing and high pressure and radial force resistance.
What strain range do they cover
1000 microstrain in tension and 1500 microstrain in compression on both models, at a 100 mm gauge length.
Do they measure temperature as well
Yes. Both measure the temperature of the embedded point from minus 25 degrees C to plus 60 degrees C with accuracy of plus minus 0.5 degrees C.
Can we identify a sensor after a cable break
An identification recognition function can be added so the original instrument code can be found after disconnection.
What cable length do you supply
Cable length is made to your installation requirement. Tell us the run length on WhatsApp when you request a quotation.
Are the gauges suitable for permanent embedment
Yes, both models are intended for long-term monitoring, with AT-SG-4052 built for wet and buried conditions.
